It seems to me that there are so many different approaches to retirement, that it is almost confusing.
This is my journey so I have been thinking long and hard. At first, a slow, un-busy retirement was attractive. Then, I wondered what if I am bored? Maybe a few projects would be a good idea. Keeping busy shouldn’t be too much of a problem, I have a lot of things I want to do.
Around the house
- re do the main floor powder room
- overhaul the half done laundry room
- maybe paint the kitchen cabinets
- plan my garden for next season
Travel
- spend quiet time in my mountain retreat
- visit Tofino (on my bucket list)
- head back to The Netherlands. I’ve always wanted to live in Amsterdam, so maybe AirBnB it for a few weeks
- Vegas Baby!!!
- Pacific Coast Highway
Personal
- Take a course or two
- volunteer. But where?
- Coffee dates
- read more. Just read Leonardo Da Vinci by Walter Issacson (NEED LINK)
See? Being bored should not be a problem. I am actually quite curious and excited as to how I will spend time. So many have said you need a plan, or to do this or that but do I really need a plan?. I don’t think so. At least not in the short term. My mini list above see ok and just enough to keep me engaged. So perhaps I’ll be fine. I know I am “smart” enough to manage. I have flown by the seat of my pants before. Like as a parent. There weren’t a lot of guide books for that when my kids were young. The difference is now there are tons of resources for retirement. Guess I had better find what is right for me.
