It’s A Retired Life: The First Week

Well the first week of retirement is in the books. I am not sure what I expected. Would I wake up each day wondering what was happening at the old J.o.b? Maybe, I would go through the day, saying to myself, “gee at this time, I would be…”? Would I be able to keep busy?

Well, the answer is NO to all of the above. Almost. I did find things to do. But really, the first week, was more like vacation. A little more sleep, more relaxing and a few projects to keep me busy. Will I need a routine going forward? For sure. But for now, I am just going with the flow, as they say.

So what did my week look like?

The week started with Thanksgiving. I put together a great brunch for the famjam. A great , relaxing way to kick off retirement. I love cooking and am really looking forward to trying new things and cooking a ton for friends and family. This was just the beginning.

Thanksgiving also included a bike ride along the river, enjoying the fall colours and my favourite Larch Trees.

The rest of my week

Then the week began once everyone went back to work and school. I slept in a bit, read a couple of books and took on some, well just one, small household projects. I cleaned and organized a pantry. Had to make room for the new air fryer that my other half ordered on Amazon during Prime Days. Oh, and I caught up a a few shows on Prime I have been meaning to watch.

I also started to plan our first trip for the new year. We haven’t taken a big trip for years. Not since we took the kids to Disneyland years ago. So planning a trip is giving me much to do.

It’s all about relaxation right now.

And I have relaxed. I mean, relaxed my attitude, my pace, my outlook. Not everything needs to be done now, today. I have time. Time to do whatever, whenever I want. I can make dinner at 10am , ready for later. I can go out at 3pm to run errands without feeling rushed. It’s kind of a nice feeling.

Let’s see what the next week brings.
